Black Rock Beach is a favorite among surfers, known for offering some of the best waves on Block Island when conditions are just right. The beach gets its name from the large black rock at the shoreline, making it easy to spot. While it may not be the easiest beach to reach, the stunning sunset views over the cliffs and the thrill of catching the perfect wave make it well worth the effort.
Access to Black Rock Beach is somewhat limited. If you’re driving, you’ll need to park near Vaill Beach and walk along the shore to reach Black Rock. Those arriving by bike or on foot can use the private dirt road that leads closer to the beach, but mopeds are not allowed. Despite the extra effort to get there, Black Rock’s natural beauty and prime surf conditions make it a hidden gem for adventurous visitors.
