Tucked away on the southern side of Block Island, Vaill Beach offers a private and peaceful escape for beachcombers, surfers, and sunset lovers. While the beach is rocky, it’s an excellent spot for finding glass floats and enjoying the rugged beauty of the island. The surf here can be rough, and rocks line the shallows, so swimmers should be cautious. However, the stunning views of the Block Island Wind Farm turbines and some of the island’s best sunsets make it well worth the visit.
Access to Vaill Beach is relatively easy compared to other secluded spots on the island. A short path winds down to the beach from Snake Hole Road, right across from the iconic Painted Rock—a boulder that visitors frequently repaint with messages, proposals, and creative designs. The path to the beach is shorter than the well-known Bluff stairs, making it a quicker descent to the sand. Parking is limited, and mopeds are not allowed on the dirt road, so plan accordingly.
